‘Beguinas’, which will consist of ten 50-minute episodes, is inspired by the beguinages, communities of women that, since the 13th century, advocated for an alternative and independent way of life apart from marriage and the Church. The beguines dedicated themselves to contemplation, but also to action, through artisan work, teaching, or caring for the sick, which contributed to society while allowing them to be self-sufficient. Despite having popular support, beguinages were spaces of relationship and freedom that were heavily scrutinized by those in power.

Amaia Aberasturi and Yon González star in the drama. They respectively portray Lucía de Avellaneda and Telmo Medina, two young people who must navigate the social impositions of the time and risk everything for love in a context not favorable to them.

The drama draws upon stories from a time that have been hidden for centuries. The cast is completed by Bea Segura, Jaime Olías, Silma López, Ella Kweku, Melani Olivares, Lucía Caraballo, Meritxell Calvo, Laura Galán, Ignacio Montes, Antonio Durán ‘Morris,’ Jonás Berami, Javier Beltrán, Carmen Esteban, Cristina Plazas, and Elisabet Gelabert, among others.

‘Beguinas’ is a production of Atresmedia TV in collaboration with Buendía Estudios. Montse García, Sonia Martínez, and Amparo Miralles are the executive producers of this drama under the Series Atresmedia label, directed by Rómulo Aguillaume and Claudia Pinto.
