La Templanza is a romantic drama starring Leonor Watling and Rafael Novoa, based on the successful novel by María Dueñas set at the end of the 19th century.

Amazon Prime Video released the trailer for the Amazon Original series ‘La Templanza’. Starring Leonor Watling and Rafael Novoa, the series will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on March 26 in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.

‘La Templanza‘ is a romantic drama based on the successful novel by María Dueñas (El tiempo entre costuras, Las hijas del Capitán) set at the end of the 19th century. It tells the story of Soledad Montalvo (Leonor Watling) and Mauro Larrea (Rafael Novoa), a self-made woman and man whose destinies are about to converge in a fascinating time and place. It is a story about overcoming adversity and finding our place in the world. A story about how to build an empire and lose everything in one day, about adventures in exotic lands and second chances.

‘La Templanza’ will make the audience travel to the tumultuous mining communities of Mexico in the 19th century, going through the elegant halls of the most exclusive London society, to reach the brutal Cuba of the slave trade and, from there, to a glorious Jerez where the most important wineries in the world were located.

“Following the worldwide success of the Spanish Amazon Original El Cid, we are delighted to be able to offer our Prime members another high-quality production such as ‘La Templanza’ as soon as possible,” says Georgia Brown, Director of European Amazon Original Series. “La Templanza is an elegant series that captivates and immerses you in a journey like no other. It has been a truly fantastic experience adapting such a successful novel with its author María Dueñas, as well as with our incredible partners Buendía Estudios and Boomerang TV, to bring this story to our Prime members around the world «.

“The stories that María Dueñas tells in her novels are very impressive and visual, so it is a real challenge to bring them to the screen. We did it with El tiempo entre costuras, and now with La Templanza, the challenge has been even greater. It is an ambitious production that recreates scenarios from different countries and continents, with a multinational cast and two protagonists, Rafa and Leonor, who have great chemistry. Jerez, the epicenter of the story and our filming, was a magical setting in La Templanza ”, says Sonia Martínez, Editorial Director of Series at Buendía Estudios. “For us it is a great satisfaction that Amazon Prime Video has placed its trust in Buendía Estudios to make one of its first Spanish originals. This commitment is also great news for the Spanish audiovisual industry, since national fiction continues to reach international heights ”.

“Adapting a novel like La Templanza has required a very demanding production model. In order to be at the level of the work of María Dueñas, it has been very important to have a rigorous character design and set setting. For more than five months, we were filming in different locations and we worked on 215 stages located in Cádiz, Jerez de la Frontera, Tenerife, Dublin, Madrid and Toledo ”, says Tedy Villaba, Executive Producer of Boomerang TV. “We have worked with a first-rate technical team made up of more than 300 professionals who have achieved a setting that is faithful to the novel. Spain has become the best setting in Europe, offering the possibility of bringing together large technical teams and providing a multitude of places where scenarios from different parts of the world can be recreated. For Boomerang TV it has been a luxury to produce this series together with Buendía Estudios with the full support of Amazon Prime Video ”.

The 10-episodes of 50-minute series stars Leonor Watling and Rafael Novoa, who lead a cast of international actors that exceeds 130 performers, including Emilio Gutiérrez Caba, Juana Acosta, Esmeralda Pimentel, Nathaniel Parker, Alejandro de la Madrid or Raúl Briones, among others.

La Templanza is a production of Atresmedia Studios (BUENDIA ESTUDIOS) in collaboration with Boomerang TV with Sonia Martínez, Nacho Manubens, Tedy Villalba and José María Caro as executive producers. The series is directed by Guillem Morales, nominated for the Goya and the BAFTA (El habitante incierto, Los ojos de Julia, Inside No.9); Goya winner Alberto Ruiz Rojo (El Cid, Brigada Costa del Sol, Presunto culpable); and the Goya winner Patricia Font (Café para llevar, Pulseras rojas, Cites, Gente que viene y bah).
