Three months have gone by. With their relationship crisis still unresolved, Berta and José Ramón are kicked out of their apartment. After a long search, a neighbor offers them, for a modest price, an apartment right next to the one they had—but it won’t be available for another six months. They decide to wait and, in the meantime, move in with his parents. One day the sister-in-law shows up—she has also lost her home—and moves in with them. Living with family, whether in-laws or one’s own, is a trial by fire for any couple. And Berta and José Ramón, as we have already seen, are not the best prepared to overcome trials by fire.
