The fiction is inspired in the beguinages, communities of women that, since the 13th Century, defended an alternative way of life independent from marriage and Church.
‘Beguinas’ is the new Antena 3 series for the prime time. The fiction will also be available on ATRESplayer PREMIUM.
‘Beguinas’, which will consist of ten episodes of 50 minutes each, is inspired in the beguinages, communities of women who, from the 13th century onwards, defended an alternative way of life apart from marriage and the Church. The beguines were dedicated to contemplation, but also to action, through craft work, teaching or caring for the sick that brought benefits to society while allowing them to be self-sufficient. The beguinages were places of association and freedom that, despite having popular support, were highly questioned by power.
‘Beguinas’ takes as a reference the history of these women, which has remained hidden over the centuries.
The actors Amaia Aberasturi and Yon González will star in the fiction. They will play, respectively, Lucía de Avellaneda and Telmo Medina, two young people who will overcome the social impositions of the time and who will risk everything for love in a context that is not favourable to them.
‘Beguinas’ is a production by Atresmedia TV in collaboration with Buendía Estudios. Montse García, Sonia Martínez and Amparo Miralles are the executive producers of this fiction by the Series Atresmedia hallmark, that will be directed by Rómulo Aguillaume and Claudia Pinto.
The script will be overseen by Irene Rodríguez, Esther Morales, Silvia Arribas and Virginia Llera. Marta de Miguel is the Production Director, Iván Caso is the Cinematographer and Jorge de Soto the Art Director. Bubi Escobar will be the Costume Designer, whereas Makeup and Hairstyling will be directed by Mariló Serrano and Fermín Galán, respectively. Juan León is the Casting Director.
‘Beguinas’ will start shooting in the following weeks in locations of Madrid and Segovia.
